The Jigawa House of Assembly has commenced a probe of the 27 local government councils of the state over alleged illegal purchase of primary school furniture.
The House which said the expenditure was not captured in the 2017 fiscal year budget, wondered about the approval by Governor Mohammad Badaru Abubakar and where the government drew the fund to finance the project.
Musa Sule, the member representing Dutse constituency and the committee chairman on appropriation, raised the motion asking the House to institute a panel to investigate the unbudgeted expenditure.
He said the Assembly would not tolerate the execution of project outside due process and would ensure that the culprits were made accountable.
The motion was seconded by the member representing Kiyawa constituency, Ado Idris Andaza, who said local government councils had no constitutional power on any capital projects within primary schools aside payment of salaries.
The speaker, Isa Idris Gwaram, directed the Committee on Local Governments to investigate the matter.
