Episode Three – Honour Your Parent

HONOUR YOUR PARENT

Exodus20:12

We don’t need to be worry neither scared of anything, but in life there are life issues we must not overlook. There was a huge apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it every day. He climbed to the treetop, ate the apples, and took a nap under the shadow. He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him. With time, the boy grew older and no longer played around the tree every day. One day, the boy came back to the tree and he looked sad.

Tree: Come and play with me…

Boy: I am no longer a kid, and can’t play around trees anymore…I want games.

I need money to buy them

Tree: Sorry, but I do not have money, but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So, you will

have money. (The boy, excited, plucked all the apples on the tree and left happily. thereafter, boy never came back. The tree was sad. One day, the boy, now a man, returned and the tree was excited).

Tree: Come and play with me…

MAN: I don’t have time to play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter.

Can you help me?

Tree: Sorry, but I don’t have any house. But you can chop off my branches to build your house.

(The man cut all the branches of the tree and left happily. Although, the tree was glad to see him happy but the man never came back ever since he left. The tree was again lonely and sad. One hot summer day, the man returned and the tree was delighted).

Tree: Come and play with me…!

Man: I am getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. How do I get a boat?

Tree: Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far away and be happy.

(The man cut the tree trunk to make a boat and went sailing the world. Finally, the man returned after many years.)

Tree: Sorry, my boy, but I do not have anything for you anymore. No more apples for you…

Man: No problem, I do not have any teeth to bite…

Tree: No more trunks for you to climb on.

Man: I am too old for that now” the man said.

Tree: I really cannot give you anything; the only thing left is my dying roots.

(The tree said with tears).

Man: I do not need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years.

Tree: Good! Old tree roots are the best place to lean on and rest, come sit down with me and

rest.” The man sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears. His friend was finally

back!

OYENIYI OLAYEMI SAMUEL: This is dedicated to everyone. The tree is like our parents.

When we were young, we loved to play with our parents. When we grow up, we leave

them and only come to them when we need something or when we are in trouble.
GOD: Honour your father and your mother for your days may be long upon the land which your God has given you.

OYENIYI OLAYEMI SAMUEL: No matter how your situation maybe, parents will always be there and give everything they could just to make you happy. According to the story, You may think the boy is cruel to the tree, but that is how all of us treat our parents. We take them for granted; we don’t appreciate all they do for us, until it’s too late.

CHALLENGE: Treat your parents with love and care and don’t wait to know their value when you see their empty chair. We never know the kind of love our parents have for us; till we have become parents. Honour your father and mother, this is light…
