John 10:32 – Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shown you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
Many a times Muslims state God is all powerful so why did He (part of Him – Son) need to be born of a woman’s womb. God could say ‘let it be’ and it would happen. But one thing they agree and do not deny is that Jesus was born of a virgin, and when you ask them why from a virgin? They will tell you ‘God wanted to show His power’. Did God lack creativity to show His power by making a virgin give birth to a son as sign for which mankind waited for almost a thousand years? When asked why only Jesus was selected to demonstrate this power, why not their beloved prophet? To this they will have no answer.
When God humbled Himself and had to come as man He could have come without a woman, as He created Adam from dust so also He could have formed Himself as man from dust and that too directly into a young man as Adam was, with no trouble of childhood or of growing up. But then the purpose would not be fulfilled. So first we need to understand His purposes for coming as man, being born of a virgin and growing up as any ordinary human and first being an example then becoming our sacrifice.
When man had no way and the gates of Heaven were shut to man, God Himself had to intervene and make a way since He loved man very much, but being Righteous He could not intervene as God. So God the Son humbled Himself and came as man Jesus. When we say God the Son we should not identify the term son with human son for human father and son are considered 2 individual beings connected through a woman. Also Muslims question if God came as man then who was running the world (they picture God as a pilot or captain running this world – if this was true then He would be a pretty bad pilot or captain, seeing the way things are happening).
Understand God is spirit and not a human, He exists everywhere yet the Upper Heaven is considered His throne. Jesus explained the term God the Son in John 1:18 and uses the words ‘who existed in the bosom of the Father’. God is not a man to have a bosom and if one takes the actual Greek word it means ‘creek’, God is not a mountain to have a creek. Jesus tried to explain as God He was part of the Father and existed in the Father yet was an individual by Himself even though they shared the same Spirit. They were so connected yet different, that is why we read scriptures like ‘that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee’ and ‘Jesus gave us His Spirit’ and sometimes we read ‘we received the Spirit of God’ for He and the Father cannot be separated yet He calls His Father ‘Lord’. When we visualize the term ‘Son’ with God it should be as in with relationship to a family and not to a human. A son of the family is part of the family yet an individual. He represents the family wherever he goes even though the whole family does not go along with him.
God the Son humbled Himself and came as man to be a sacrifice for man since no man was found worthy to be a sacrifice. When we say sacrifice it does not mean a death that pleased God (God is life and is not a demonic god to like death) but sacrifice means a justification, man (mankind) had sinned so had to pay the price for his sins (which is usually done in Hell – a prison where man was cursed to go after he or she dies). Jesus was without even one sin yet took the punishment on Himself therefore His justification was greater than the same if was done by all sinful men. He also went to Hell due to our sins being on Him yet He did not suffer there, nor would be kept there since no sin was in Him. His coming out of Hell broke the curse of Hell for all this who are in Him (spiritually made Him their Lord).
Jesus to be the perfect sacrifice of behalf of mankind had to firstly be born from the family of Adam yet should not be born with a human father because the curse of Adam (sinful nature and other curses) was from the father unto the children.
Jesus being born of a woman who was a descendant of Adam fulfilled his task of being a sacrifice on behalf of the children of Adam (those who believe in God) and He being born of a virgin (without a human father) made sure He was born without blemish since as man His father was the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God). As man He had the perfect nature (image) of God therefore even though He was 100 percent man He was called Son of God (there is a difference between God the Son and Son of God – the latter is used for even the Angels who have the image of God in them, Adam too was called Son of God before he sinned, before we go to Heaven we become Sons of God). Mary as a woman was chosen not because there was something very special about her. She was an ordinary God fearing devote woman and she was a descendant of David, it was she being chosen that made her special and be called ‘blessed’, not the other way around. Her relation with Jesus even though being of a mother and child yet she was more like a surrogate mother for Him (since He was not born of a human relationship and thus did not inherit anything from her) that is why He used the term ‘woman’ when He spoke to her directly but yet called her ‘mother’ when He spoke to others referring to her.
Even though Jesus was born without blemish He grew up as an ordinary human and during this time He did not sin even once, even slightly like a bad thought. This was only possible because of the Spirit of God was on Him (this enable Him to resurrect – the power worked no in Hell after His death but while He was alive as man). We can be exactly like Jesus for when we are born-again we are made new and when we are baptized (immersed) in the Holy Spirit the Spirit works in us as He worked in Jesus.
I explained all this so you could understand in today’s message, which Father Jesus is referring to as works of the Father. We, who are brethren of the man Jesus Christ, can also call the Holy Spirit as Father for He is the Spirit of the Father, and also He has accepted us into His Family by the justification done on our behalf by His Son. Let us to show the works of our Father in us like Jesus did, so that people will know we are of God having God (image of God) in us.
Lord, You are Almighty God and there is no place any being can hide from You for You are omnipresent. You created man for a purpose and set things for him far greater than he can imagine. When the Angels fell and bought death into existence, You allowed this evil to come into man with Adam sinning but You also made a way for man to overcome this evil and have victory over evil and death. Lord we thank You for making a way for our salvation and for us being part of the Family. Holy Spirit, You are our Father, work in us and show us as your Sons to the world that they may know You in us…
This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
